Sean Gares accuses players of match-fixing in VCL NA: Riot Games launches serious investigation

Former coach and analyst Sean Gares released a video on May 24 exposing major issues within the VALORANT Challengers League North America (VCL NA), including match-fixing, throw games, and cheating with proofs. Players from teams Blue Otter , FlyQuest RED , and Burger Boyz are under suspicion.

Head of VALORANT Esports Leo Faria responded swiftly, publishing an official statement from the VCT team. He confirmed that Riot began an investigation in early May after receiving the first alerts. Independent organizations such as IBIA, Sportradar, GRID, and other integrity partners are involved in the process.

We are committed to a thorough, fair, and evidence-based process. Publicly sharing information can hinder the investigation. But we have a duty to protect the integrity of esports.
Faria noted.

Amid the controversy, FlyQuest RED benched player Bob pending the outcome of the investigation. Blue Otter also released a statement: while they support Sean’s intent to improve the scene, they consider his allegations to be mistaken.

We will unconditionally condemn any player actions if the accusations are confirmed. But until there's evidence — we stand by our roster.

The team emphasized that its players train almost daily, and during seven months of cooperation, no violations were observed. However, Blue Otter also stated they are ready to accept any decision by Riot if guilt is proven.

The investigation is ongoing. Riot has pledged to share updates when appropriate but has not provided a timeline for its conclusion.
