Wolves Esports and XLG Esports — first chinese representatives qualified for Masters Toronto 2025
Wolves Esports and XLG Esports have become the first Chinese teams to secure spots at Masters Toronto 2025. Their victories in the playoff matches of VCT 2025: China Stage 1, held on April 19, guaranteed them qualification. The teams that fell short in these matchups still have a chance to fight for the final slot.
Wolves Esports vs Bilibili Gaming
Despite Bilibili Gaming entering the match as favorites, they failed to pose a serious threat. The first map, Split (picked by Wolves Esports ), ended 13:8 after a tight first half (7:5). The second map, Haven (Bilibili's pick), followed the same script, ending 13:8 in Wolves' favor.
This victory was particularly significant for Wolves Esports — it not only broke their five-match losing streak against Bilibili Gaming but also secured one of China’s three slots for Masters Toronto .
EDward Gaming vs XLG Esports
In a surprising twist, reigning world champions EDward Gaming couldn’t take a single map against the VCT rookies XLG Esports , who had earned their league spot via Ascension last year.
On Lotus (XLG’s pick), EDG fell behind early, losing the first half 4:8 and failing to recover. On their own pick Haven, they started with another weak half (5:7) but fought back to reach 11:12. However, an incredible defensive play by Rarga on Long A shut down EDG’s final push — 13:11 for XLG, and with it, a well-deserved ticket to Masters Toronto .
EDward Gaming still has a path to Toronto , but they must win their next two matches to claim the final Chinese spot.
VCT 2025: China Stage 1 is taking place from March 13 to May 4 in a LAN setting at the VCT CN Arena in Shanghai. Twelve partnered teams are competing for three slots at Masters Toronto 2025. The final representative from China will be determined on May 2.
