Yeon Confident Ahead of T1 Rematch: “We Can Definitely Take a Few Maps”

Yeon Confident Ahead of T1 Rematch: “We Can Definitely Take a Few Maps”

Team Liquid AD carry Sean “Yeon” Son spoke about the team’s win over Karmine Corp and their upcoming rematch against T1 at MSI 2026.

In an interview with Sheep Esports, Yeon discussed Team Liquid ’s recovery after their opening loss to T1 , the 3-0 victory over Karmine Corp , and the current level of North America compared to Europe.

Team Liquid defeated Karmine Corp 3-0 to reach the Play-In final, where they will face T1 for a spot in the MSI 2026 Bracket Stage.

Yeon said the loss to T1 did not affect Team Liquid ’s confidence. According to him, the team was able to reset quickly and show more of its own identity in the match against Karmine Corp .

“The series against T1 didn’t break us mentally. I’m glad we were able to bounce back. Our mindset really helped us when we discussed the game and prepared for the next matches.”

He also admitted that losing to T1 was not shocking, but said Team Liquid were unhappy with the way they played. Yeon felt the team moved away from its usual aggressive style.

“ T1 is a very strong team. They play cleanly both mechanically and structurally. It’s not shameful to lose to T1 , but the way we lost was a bit embarrassing — we didn’t play our game and in our style.”

Yeon also commented on his matchup against Caliste . While he said the series against Karmine Corp and T1 were difficult to compare because of different champion drafts, he believes his experience gives him an advantage.

“I would say I have much more experience than Caliste , and I think I have a better overall understanding of the game, even if he might be mechanically better than me.”

Ahead of the rematch with T1 , Yeon said Team Liquid are entering the series with more confidence. He believes the team can challenge the LCK side more closely this time.

“I’m very confident. We can definitely take at least a few maps from them — maybe even the entire series. I’m really looking forward to playing against them.”

Yeon also reflected on Team Liquid ’s past international matches against T1 . He said he and Cho “CoreJJ” Yong-in have been close to deep international runs several times, but have always fallen just short.

“CoreJJ and I, in various Team Liquid lineups, have been close to deep runs in international tournaments several times, but we always stopped just short. Maybe now is finally our moment.”

When asked about the LCS and LEC comparison, Yeon acknowledged that Europe has a larger player base and stronger historical international results. However, he believes North American teams have performed well in recent head-to-head matches.

“When NA and EU play against each other, I think we generally perform better. Although I haven’t played against G2 Esports yet — they are a very strong and talented team.”

The winner of Team Liquid vs T1 will advance to the MSI 2026 Bracket Stage. For Team Liquid , the match is also a chance to take revenge after their opening Play-In loss.
