As the exciting 2024 World Championship is about to conclude, we have already started looking forward to the events of 2025. Over the past year, League of Legends esports has experienced much growth and change, some of which have brought changes to the esports industry.
Introducing the First Stand Event
We know fans have been eagerly awaiting a third international event for a long time, so we are thrilled to introduce a new member to the competition schedule, First Stand. Born to ignite regional rivalries and test new ideas, teams from around the world will compete early in the season to set the tone for subsequent competitions. This event will be held after the first split, from March 10-16, 2025, at LoL Park in Seoul, Korea.
Fearless Draft Mode: Opening a New Era of Strategy
The highly anticipated Fearless Draft Mode will be launched in all regions during the first split and will be the focal point of the First Stand event. This bold new format will challenge teams' strategic limits, adding an extra layer of variability to each series. Once a champion is picked, neither team can use that champion again in the remaining matches of the series. This means that after each match, 10 champions will be "banned." The pick/ban phase will still retain the traditional 10 ban slots, making each choice crucial, and ensuring that even in a fifth game, no champion will be picked twice. This format encourages bold strategies, forcing teams to quickly adapt to an evolving champion pool, making each match more intense and unpredictable. Get ready for the most exciting and dynamic matches in League of Legends esports history!
2025 Mid-Season Invitational: Returning to Canada
Starting at the end of June next year, after the second split, Canada will host our Mid-Season Invitational, featuring 10 participating teams from 5 regions! After a long wait, the global events of League of Legends esports will once again come before Canadian fans, and we are filled with joy and anticipation.
World Championship Finals Heading to Chengdu
Last week, we announced that the 2025 World Championship will be held in China. Now, as we conclude the exciting World Championship finals in London, we are thrilled to officially announce that the 2025 League of Legends World Championship finals will be held in Chengdu! In 2024, when we hosted the Mid-Season Invitational in Chengdu, we experienced an amazing atmosphere and the enthusiasm of the fans, and we can't wait to witness another unforgettable event.
League Upgrades and Format
Over the past week, regional leagues have shared their format upgrades for the upcoming seasons. (The specific schedule and format for the 2025 LPL season will be announced later, so stay tuned.) These adjustments reflect our ongoing commitment to advancing the League of Legends esports ecosystem to ensure its competitiveness and sustainability, bringing fans a wealth of exciting moments.
