"Both sides seemed a bit nervous, and ultimately the side with more mistakes lost."
Tarzan from WBG expressed regret after losing the match against GEN.
In an interview with The National Daily, Tarzan said: "Maybe it's because we haven't played in a real match for a long time, I could feel both sides were a bit nervous. In the end, we made more mistakes, which led to our loss." He also added: "Actually, there were several chances to win, and I don't think it was a one-sided defeat. If we prepare better tomorrow, we have a chance to win."
He continued: "We did play according to the prepared BP strategy, and this lineup has its characteristics." He evaluated the match by saying: "We initially gained some operational advantage through lane swapping. Although it wasn't as smooth as expected, I think our defense was quite decent. However, we got killed by the opponent in advantageous situations, and our teamfight handling was not as good as theirs. These factors gradually accumulated and became the reason for our defeat."
Tarzan chose Ivern in this match. Despite Ivern being nerfed, he still believes it's a hero worth using. Tarzan stated: "In international events, different regions and teams have different understandings of the patch. Although we lost, I am satisfied with the unique style we showcased. The combination of Ivern and Lucian works well, and Ivern is not the only nerfed hero, so I think he is still viable."
Regarding the Bo1 format in the Swiss round, Tarzan said he didn't feel much pressure. He said: "The characteristic of the Bo1 format is that there might be some unexpected picks or counter heroes, but the current patch already has a certain framework. I don't think an unexpected pick will completely change the course of the match; regardless of the hero used, the trend of the match is generally similar."
Tarzan's goal at this year's World Championship is to leave a significant mark in international events where he previously underperformed. He said: "In the past, I rarely achieved satisfactory results and performances. This year, my goal is to grow and deliver a good performance. I also hope to bring exciting performances to the Korean fans."
