PGL Changes Betting Rules
The organizers of the PGL Wallachia Season 4 have changed the tournament regulations right in the middle of the event. The reason for this was the situation surrounding sQreen , the head of the Dota 2 division for the team Edge, who reportedly made public bets on matches of the same tournament.
Previously, PGL rules prohibited betting only for players, coaches, and managers of participating teams. However, now the list of individuals banned from betting has been significantly expanded: anyone associated with an organization participating in the tournament is prohibited from betting—including executives, owners, and even administrative staff.
Violation of this rule threatens severe consequences. If it is proven that a person affiliated with a team has violated the ban, the team itself can be disqualified from PGL Wallachia. Moreover, they may be banned from participating in future PGL tournaments.
At the center of this scandal is sQreen , who holds a leadership position in Edge's Dota division. Despite his involvement with the organization, he publicly placed bets on tournament matches, prompting a response from the organizers.
The situation with sQreen could set a precedent that changes the approach to transparency in esports. PGL shows a willingness to respond promptly to violations and protect the integrity of the competition. Now teams will have to be more cautious not only with players but with everyone associated with the organization.
