Dendi made a controversial statement about Deadlock tournaments
Danil " Dendi " Ishutin, a legend from the Dota 2 pro scene, considers Deadlock by Valve to be one of the best games in its category, but fear that its esports potential is slim because the game is very difficult for spectators to comprehend.
He spoke about this in an interview on Youtube channel Betking esports.
“Deadlock is a very cool game. One of the best shooters. It’s fun and enjoyable, but very difficult. You need to know a lot. Even the artifacts require you to sit and study. It’s hard to start playing it and and be successful. Once you get the hang of it, then it's enjoyable. But you need to train a lot and spend a lot of time. There are already some online tournaments happening so question if it will succeed in esports?”
Dendi remarked that the game is complex and difficult to master, which is why it would require a great amount of time and effort to players. He believes that his form of esports is already being practiced with tournaments, but the longevity is unclear because, in his view, the gameplay is too chaotic for fans to enjoy and understand.
“It is rather hard to watch. CS is a spectator friendly game accompanied by good entertainment value. Watching it, you understand everything. Deadlock is pure mayhem, which is difficult for the average viewer to comprehend. Should Valve resolve the issues with Deadlock, then the game can compete in esports. Otherwise, it will be a struggle. What needs to happen to fix this? I have no idea. Right now, there are 6v6 skirmishes in the game. How do you show that? A lot of nonsense”
He said the most decisive contrast is viewer comprehension. Dendi told us that a spectator can understand CS2, while the opposite is true with Deadlock. Nevertheless, he has faith that Valve might improve the viewing experience of the game.
We remember Dendi attended over two thousand League of Legends games and objectively compared them to Dota 2.
