Team Spirit commented on the MMR reset in Dota 2
Team Spirit analyst Mark “sikle” Lerman expressed skepticism regarding the ability to reset matchmaking ratings, or MMR, because hidden MMR would still remain. To him, too many players are stuck on silly ideas.
He said this during an interview with BetBoom Esports.
“Plenty of people want a reset. It’s not going to help. Everyone has a hidden MMR assuming a base poked in. It’s starting positions, but the number is worthless. The reset won’t fix anything”
The analyst noted that in order to solve the fix for matchmaking, it entire system would need to be thrown out and reworked from scratch with penalties at the core. Days were pointed out where so many people are able to quit the game, die on purpose, or ruin the entire point of the game with little to no consequences.
“A complete rework is in order in my opinion. Why is there no punishment for dash and bash type players? If I wanted to fully abandon matches, I could do so freely with no repercussions every 15 matches. Introduce restrictions or punishment for feeders and leavers and the game immediately becomes more enjoyable. For my sake, at least there will be some thoughts put into it”
Sikle also pointed out that even with these penalties in place, there is no improvement for the first few games, however, longer term these will improve the environment of matchmaking.
In a recent update, Valve stripped Dota 2 of an essential feature.
