Scandal around a bug in the G2 - ODDIK match at PGL Astana 2025

During the second round match of the PGL Astana 2025 group stage, which took place on May 11, 2025 at Barys Arena, Astana, Kazakhstan , a dispute arose between the ODDIK and G2 teams on the Dust2 map due to the use of atypical mechanics.

The captain of ODDIK , Adriano “ WOOD7 ” Cerato, purchased two Scouts, one of which he dropped on his teammate João “ naitte ” Maia. naitte used his rifle to shoot his opponent, then returned to the spawn and passed the Scout back to WOOD7 . This action allowed the captain to recover the money he had spent, despite the use of the weapon, which caused G2 to be outraged.

WOOD7 's reaction: Defending the position
WOOD7 reacted to the accusations of unfair play through the social network X , where he published a post:

Imperial used this against us in the Major qualifier in the dust2 match, this is not a bug and is allowed by the PGL organization, we confirmed it before using it, stop crying,” WOOD7 said, urging rivals to accept the situation.

Rules and precedents
The mechanic that allows for refunds through weapon drops is part of CS2 's gameplay, but using it in this way is considered controversial. According to WOOD7 , PGL confirmed the legality of this technique before it was used, which adds legitimacy to ODDIK 's position.

PGL changed the rules
According to unofficial information, PGL initially allowed one team to use this mechanic, but after a single case, its use was immediately banned. This decision raised additional questions about the consistency of the tournament rules. WOOD7 hinted at this change in his post:

They just banned the refund, unfortunately I had another great deagle move up my sleeve that I won't be able to use. People aren't watching the games on our zakk stage.

This situation emphasizes the need for clear and transparent rules that avoid double standards.

Analysis of the situation: Rules or exploit?
This case sparked heated discussions among fans, analysts, and experts. On the one hand, ODDIK claim that the action was agreed with the organizers, which makes it legitimate. On the other hand, they consider it an abuse, as such tactics can affect the balance of the game. Experts note that similar precedents have already occurred in the past, but their legality always depended on the decision of the organizers.

The match between ODDIK and G2 ended in a 2-1 victory for ODDIK , but the dispute over the mechanics may affect the further course of the tournament. The situation with ODDIK and G2 could become a precedent for future tournaments, where organizers should clearly define which mechanics are considered acceptable and which are not. In addition, changing the rules after a single use of a mechanic raises questions about the fairness and transparency of the tournament.

PGL Astana 2025 takes place from May 10 to 18. The entire tournament is held in Astana, Kazakhstan , at the "Barys" arena. Participants are competing for a prize pool of $625,000.
