Rumor: League of Legends to Introduce WASD Controls

A new control type has been discovered in the PBE test server files for League of Legends—movement using the WASD keys. The dataminer SkinSpotlights shared details about features that can already be found in the test client. Riot Games has not officially announced these changes, but they could potentially impact the familiar gameplay style of millions of users.

The new control system will allow players to reassign champion movement from the mouse to the WASD keys. The settings will also feature three modes for the "Dash" ability: "Cursor," "WASD with Enhanced Cursor," and "WASD with Backup Cursor." Their exact behavior is not yet known, but it is assumed that they will handle the direction of skill application differently within the new control system.

Standard movement using the right mouse button remains available and can be enabled in the settings. Additionally, a toggle has been added to allow abilities to be used in the direction the character is moving, which is particularly relevant when controlling with the keyboard.

The release date for the new system has not been announced yet. However, the appearance of data in the PBE client indicates an early stage of testing and a possible launch in one of the upcoming patches.
