SumaiL Announces Retirement After Nigma Galaxy 's Elimination From The International 2026

Legendary Dota 2 player Syed Sumail "SumaiL" Hassan has announced that The International 2026 was likely his final professional tournament. The decision came after Nigma Galaxy were eliminated from the event in the lower bracket quarterfinals.

SumaiL Likely Ends His Competitive Career

Nigma Galaxy 's run at The International 2026 came to an end after a 1:2 defeat against BetBoom Team. Despite a strong performance throughout the tournament, the team finished in 5th-6th place, matching its result from The International 2025.

Following the loss, SumaiL confirmed in an exit interview that he is preparing to step away from competitive Dota 2.

We tried our best. It looked pretty good, we were one game away from Top 3 last night. And then today was a good series but, I don't know, something went wrong in game three. As far as for the team, I'm not sure. This is probably my last event.

The Pakistani superstar had previously hinted that TI 2026 could be his final tournament. Even Nigma Galaxy 's impressive run through the Group Stage and Playoffs was not enough to significantly change his decision.

When asked whether the team's performance could convince him to continue competing, SumaiL admitted that he would consider it but does not currently see himself returning.

I would like to give it some thought, for sure. But I don't see it, to be honest, unfortunately.

A Career Spanning More Than a Decade

SumaiL leaves competitive Dota 2 as one of the most accomplished and recognizable players in the history of the game. Over more than a decade, he competed for some of the biggest organizations in the scene and established himself as one of the strongest mid laners of his generation.

During his final interview, SumaiL also thanked the fans who supported him throughout his career.

Thank you to everyone, to be honest, for the cheers and support throughout the years. It's been rough, the past few years, you know. But at the end of the day, I've said and I'll say it again, you guys make it, you guys make Dota great, to be honest. We are just playing video games, so I really appreciate it.

SumaiL is not the only veteran to hint at the end of his competitive career following elimination from The International 2026.
