HLTV updates Rating 3.0 with map-specific accuracy improvements

HLTV has updated Rating 3.0 with several adjustments designed to improve the accuracy of its player evaluation system.

The revised calculations incorporate thousands of additional maps played since Rating 3.0 was introduced and make changes to both Round Swing and eco adjustment.

Cache receives its own map averages

Rating 3.0 uses map-specific averages when evaluating player performances.

Cache previously lacked enough CS2 match data and therefore relied on global averages, but HLTV now has enough matches to incorporate map-specific numbers.

The underlying dataset has also been refreshed with matches played through September 29.

HLTV said Rating 3.0 is now based on 29,030 maps, including 9,029 played on lan .

Round Swing calculations refined

Kills recorded after a planted bomb can no longer realistically be defused will no longer artificially influence Round Swing.

The update also fixes situations where a player could receive negative Round Swing after securing a kill and changes how players joining a match as stand-ins are treated for rounds they did not participate in.

HLTV tested the revised system across 6,687 CS2 maps played between July and September.

The average single-map rating changed by only 0.021, while 9.4% of ratings moved by at least 0.05 and around 1% changed by 0.10 or more.
