jL says Vitality role adjustment became easier after shock Inner Circle loss
Justinas "jL" Lekavicius has revealed that Vitality 's shock opening defeat to Inner Circle ultimately helped him adjust to his temporary role in the team.
The Lithuanian is standing in for William " mezii " Merriman at BLAST Open Porto and has been attempting to replicate some of mezii 's responsibilities without abandoning his own playing style.
Inner Circle defeat exposes role problems
Vitality began their Porto campaign with an unexpected loss to Inner Circle .
According to jL, the result forced the team to confront the differences between himself and mezii .
jL admitted that he could not automatically know the exact situations in which mezii would normally provide support utility, throw flashes or smokes, or react to particular positions.
The team reviewed those situations following the defeat.
That process helped clarify what Vitality needed from jL and allowed him to become more comfortable in the lineup.
jL refuses to simply imitate mezii
Although he has inherited many of mezii 's responsibilities, jL does not want to become a direct copy of the British rifler.
He believes attempting to completely replicate another player's style would prevent him from producing his own best Counter-Strike.
Instead, jL is trying to fulfil the structural requirements of Vitality 's system while still playing situations in a way that feels natural to him.
The adjustment became increasingly effective as the tournament progressed.
Vitality recover through lower bracket
After losing their opening series, Vitality were immediately pushed into elimination territory.
They responded by defeating 9z , Legacy and FUT in consecutive lower-bracket series to secure a place in the playoffs.
The run demonstrated a clear improvement from their difficult opening match and allowed the team more time to adapt to playing with jL.
Vitality will now face FURIA Esports in the BLAST Open Porto quarter-finals.
The winner advances to face Mouz in the semi-finals.
