Dust II emerges as the most popular map at Esports World Cup 2026 in CS2

The Counter-Strike 2 competition at the Esports World Cup 2026 concluded on August 23, with Team Spirit defeating FUT Esports in the grand final to claim the championship.

The tournament in Paris featured 32 teams competing for a total prize pool of $2 million. Beyond the final standings, the event also produced a clear picture of which maps were favored most heavily throughout the competition, with Dust II emerging as the most frequently played map at EWC 2026.

Dust II was the most popular map of the tournament

Dust II was played 24 times, the highest total among all seven maps featured at the tournament.

Ancient followed with 19 appearances, while Mirage, Nuke, and Inferno were each played 18 times. Cache appeared 11 times, while Anubis was the least-picked map with just 7 appearances.

  • Dust II — 24 maps

  • Ancient — 19 maps

  • Mirage — 18 maps

  • Nuke — 18 maps

  • Inferno — 18 maps

  • Cache — 11 maps

  • Anubis — 7 maps

Dust II featured regularly throughout both the group stage and playoffs. FURIA Esports and Legacy , for example, played the deciding third map of their third-place match on Dust II, while Team Vitality , Mouz , and several other teams also selected it during the tournament.

Mirage and Nuke had the strongest CT advantage

Map popularity was only one part of the statistical picture at EWC 2026, with several maps also showing noticeable differences between CT and T-side success rates.

Mirage produced the strongest defensive advantage, with CT-side teams winning 60% of rounds compared with 40% for the T-side.

Nuke followed a similar pattern, with CT teams winning 58% of rounds and T-side teams taking 42%.

Despite that defensive advantage, both maps remained popular throughout the event and were played 18 times each.

Dust II was almost evenly balanced

Despite being the most frequently played map, Dust II showed only a slight advantage toward the CT-side.

CT teams won 52% of rounds, compared with 48% for the T-side, leaving just a four-percentage-point difference between the two sides.

Previous tournament statistics also showed a CT advantage on Dust II. During the group stage, it was the second most-played map behind Inferno.

Its combination of high popularity and relatively even side balance made Dust II one of the most prominent maps throughout EWC 2026.

Inferno was the most balanced map

Inferno produced a perfect split between the two sides, with CT and T teams each winning 50% of rounds.

The map was played 18 times during the tournament and remained one of the more common choices throughout the event.

It did not feature in the grand final between FUT Esports and Spirit, where the series instead included Nuke, Ancient , Anubis, and Cache.

T-side dominated on Anubis

Anubis produced the strongest attacking advantage of any map at EWC 2026.

T-side teams won 55% of rounds, while CT-side teams accounted for 45%. Despite the noticeable difference, Anubis was also the least-played map of the tournament with only 7 appearances.

Ancient also leaned slightly toward the attacking side. T teams won 52% of rounds compared with 48% for CT, while the map appeared 19 times and finished as the second most popular choice overall.

What the EWC 2026 map statistics showed

The map distribution at Esports World Cup 2026 showed that popularity and side balance did not always move together.

Dust II comfortably led the tournament in total appearances while remaining relatively balanced between CT and T. Mirage and Nuke were also among the most frequently played maps despite showing a clear CT advantage, while Inferno produced an exact 50-50 split.

Anubis, meanwhile, had the strongest T-side advantage but was selected less frequently than any other map at the tournament.

Overall, the statistics showed that teams considered more than side balance when selecting maps, with preparation, player comfort, opponent strengths, and recent results all influencing the veto process.
