CEO of Sinners Accuses VRS of Unfair Rating Recalculation

CEO of Sinners , Milan Hýbl, publicly criticized Valve's ranking system (VRS). According to him, it unfairly penalizes teams that show progress and improve their results over time.

He stated that Sinners demonstrated significant progress over the season but fell short of MRQ's goal by just a step. This was largely due to the controversial VRS ranking system, which Milan believes negatively impacts the tier-2 scene.

The main issue is the recalculation of old matches. Valve considers game results from the past 6 months, but recalculates them based on the team's current ranking.

This leads to the absurd situation where if you grow and become stronger, your past losses suddenly become "more costly." This is exactly how Sinners lost about 40 ranking points for matches played six months ago.

Why punish teams for improving?
He wonders

But the problems didn't end there. The second blow was the removal of ranking points for CCT Series 16. Valve excluded this tournament from the VRS system due to violations of invite rules by the organizers.

Sinners earned important points there and delivered one of their best performances of the season. But due to Valve's decisions, their progress was nullified. For tier-2 teams like Sinners , such points are a chance for invitations to top tournaments and entry onto the lan scene.

As a result, Sinners finished the qualifiers with 922 points — exactly the same as Iberian Family in 31st place. But the MRQ qualifying zone started at the 27th position. In his opinion, without these two factors — the recalculation of losses and the removal of points for CCT — they would have definitely made it to MRQ.

This is not a complaint. This is the start of a dialogue
concluded Milan
