Riot asks Champions Shanghai players to use wired mice as desks are replaced

Riot Games has asked players at VALORANT Champions Shanghai to temporarily switch to wired mice while tournament organizers replace the custom desks blamed for peripheral interference.

The measure follows repeated technical problems during the tournament's group stage.

Metal desk components caused interference

Riot previously traced the mouse and input problems to conductive metal components used in the stage desks.

Several players had already switched to wired mice before Riot formally made the request.

The company is rebuilding the desks using a different material but has not given a firm date for when the replacement process will be completed.

Riot acknowledged that the disruptions were below the standard expected at Champions and that requiring players to change peripherals can affect established muscle memory.

FUT incident adds to controversy

The issue returned to the spotlight during FUT Esports ' series against 100 Thieves when xeus ' mouse failed during the second round on Split.

The affected round was initially allowed to stand.

Riot later acknowledged that the round should have been replayed under the circumstances and accepted responsibility for the incorrect decision.

However, the result was not retroactively changed because recreating the situation after the match had concluded would have unfairly affected 100 Thieves .

The temporary wired-mouse requirement will remain part of Riot's response while the new stage desks are prepared.
