Selangor Red Giants survive seven-game Team Rey challenge to claim sixth consecutive MPL Malaysia title
Selangor Red Giants defeated Team Rey 4–3 in the MPL Malaysia Season 18 grand final, extending their domestic championship streak to six consecutive titles.
The final at Stadium Juara in Kuala Lumpur went the full distance, with Team Rey repeatedly answering Selangor Red Giants ’s victories before the defending champions secured the seventh game.
Neither team wins consecutive games
Selangor Red Giants opened the series with a victory, but Team Rey immediately levelled at 1–1.
The same pattern continued throughout the final. Selangor Red Giants won Games 3 and 5, while Team Rey responded in Games 4 and 6 to force the championship into a deciding game.
That left Selangor Red Giants facing their most demanding final of the current title streak after entering the match without dropping a playoff game.
They had previously swept Bigetron MY by VIT 3–0 and defeated Team Rey by the same score in the upper-bracket final.
Selangor Red Giants finish the job in Game 7
Team Rey ’s resistance ended in the decider, where Selangor Red Giants secured the victory required to retain the title.
The result marked the first MPL Malaysia grand final to reach a seventh game since Season 12.
For Team Rey , the runner-up finish represented a significant improvement after their early exit from the previous season’s playoffs. Their lower-bracket recovery had already secured an M8 berth before the title match began.
Both finalists will represent Malaysia directly in the M8 World Championship Main Stage in Istanbul, giving Team Rey an international opportunity alongside the country’s six-time defending league champions.
