Irrad from MLBB is so quick-witted and swift that he could easily kick off a second career solving Rubik’s Cubes
Filipino professional gamer John “Irrad” Abarquez has an intriguing hobby beyond Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. When not engaged in competitive gaming, his focus turns to solving the Rubik’s Cube, a puzzle as intricate and demanding as the esports he competes in.
At the MPL PH Season 11 playoffs, Irrad showcased his remarkable talent during a press conference. Observing a journalist holding a Rubik’s Cube, he was asked to solve it on camera. Eagerly accepting the challenge, Irrad astounded everyone present by completing the puzzle in under a minute—an impressive feat indeed.
Capitalizing on the surprise, ONE Esports secured an exclusive interview with Irrad. He recounted his love for the Rubik’s Cube, a hobby he's held since his younger days and still cherishes in his daily routine.
"I first delved into the Rubik’s Cube in eighth grade for a school tournament, despite not being skilled back then," Irrad shared. Despite an underwhelming performance, his determination to master the puzzle only grew stronger. He meticulously documented various patterns and strategies, striving for faster solves.
"Continual practice honed my skills," Irrad fondly reminisced. "At my peak, my fastest solve clocked at 14 seconds."
For perspective, it takes an average person roughly three hours to solve the cube for the first time, according to Netflix's documentary, The Speed Cubers.
While now a professional in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Irrad confessed he's not as swift at solving Rubik’s Cubes as before. Nonetheless, he still finds time to engage with his beloved puzzle, occasionally during scrimmages and practices.
“Cubing will always be part of my life,” Irrad affirmed, emphasizing his enduring passion for the Rubik’s Cube.
