Yatoro says changing coaches can reshape a team more than replacing a player
Team Spirit carry Yatoro believes a coaching change can have a greater effect on a Dota 2 team than replacing an individual player, pointing to the coach’s influence over drafting and the team’s understanding of the map.
Speaking on Team Spirit ’s podcast, Yatoro explained that coaching decisions extend beyond preparation outside matches. In his view, a coach’s ideas also shape hero selections, movements and the broader approach players follow during competition.
Coaching changes affect the entire system
Yatoro argued that replacing a coach can substantially alter both a team’s drafts and its interpretation of the game. An individual roster change, by comparison, may require less adjustment when the incoming player has a similar level of ability.
He used Spirit’s recent offlane transition as an example, comparing incoming player Batyuk with departing offlaner Collapse . Yatoro praised both players and said the difference had been less disruptive than a coaching change could be.
Spirit continue adapting after their roster change
Yatoro ’s assessment followed Spirit’s runner-up finish at BLAST Slam VIII, where they lost the grand final 1–3 to Team Yandex .
His comments described the team’s adaptation positively, while emphasizing that its collective direction depends on more than the five players selected to compete.
