NS shocked everyone with a statement about the creator of Dota 2 and Valve
Yaroslav “NS” Kuznetsov, a streamer who used to be an esports competitor, remarked that IceFrog, the Dota franchise has been attributed to a lot of games in the industry, might not have actually participated in making Dota 2 and was just a face for Valve.
He shared this opinion on a twitch stream.
“Every time IceFrog is mentioned, I cannot help but chuckle. I read what Nix said: ‘I haven’t liked Dota since IceFrog left.’ But how does he even know that? That IceFrog left, or that he was even there? It’s absurd. This is the type of situation where people make generalized assumptions, it’s like gossip from an elderly woman sitting on a railing. Whether IceFrog has been around the past decade is up for debate, but the fact that he isn’t is not. This is Valve we are speaking about. A completely black-boxed company. Nobody knows what they are doing, zero information”
NS also pointed out towards the claims of Alexander “Nix” Levin IceFrog’s statements without any coverage is dubious considering he has no idea what goes on inside a valve. The streamer stressed the point that the question has to be asked whether IceFrog has participated in Dota 2’s development in the recent years.
“I’ve always felt... I’m not even saying I’m sure, but I’ve had this feeling that IceFrog never actually worked on Dota 2 at all. He was more of a figurehead, someone who was needed to build media hype around the idea that the original developer was still involved. There was also a strong chance that Blizzard might try and do something, and having IceFrog on board could work as legal cover – he worked on Dota, so he could wield some rights. I think IceFrog was more valuable for that purpose rather than actually working on the game”
The ex pro contends that Icefrog was for Valve a figure and a legal entity to protect the Dota 2 IP that was focused on publicity. He went as far as to say that IceFrog may not have accepted the contract at all.
Earlier Nix stated that the changes made by the new developers are extreme and so far-reaching that there is a new emerging problem for Dota 2.
