Falcons sweep G2 2-0 to reach BLAST Open Porto semi-finals
Falcons advanced to the BLAST Open Porto semi-finals with a dominant 2:0 victory over G2, extending their head-to-head winning streak against their former star's old organization.
The result marked Falcons ' fourth consecutive victory over G2 since Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov joined the team.
Falcons 2:0 G2
Falcons set the tone immediately on Inferno.
Their CT side completely overwhelmed G2, with René "TeSeS" Madsen opening the map by shutting down a dangerous anti-force in the second round.
From there, Falcons ' stars took turns making an impact.
m0NESY, Maksim "kyousuke" Lukin and Nikola "NiKo" Kovač all delivered important multi-kills as G2 repeatedly struggled to convert promising situations.
NiKo then produced one of the highlights of the map with a solo quad-kill that helped push Falcons toward an enormous 11:1 first-half lead.
G2 showed some resistance after the side switch through Matúš "MATYS" Šimko, but the deficit was far too large.
Falcons closed Inferno 13:6.
kyousuke breaks G2 on Dust2
Dust2 began more competitively, but Falcons again found the stronger individual moments.
kyousuke delivered a critical hero-AK round in the sixth, breaking G2's economy and helping Falcons establish another significant first-half advantage.
G2 attempted to fight back through Nemanja "huNter-" Kovač.
The veteran produced a pistol-round double, followed it with an ace and later added a 1v2 clutch to keep the map alive.
It was not enough.
m0NESY helped push Falcons to match point before the team eventually closed Dust2 13:9 and completed the sweep.
NiKo leads dominant Falcons performance
NiKo finished the series as the highest-rated player with 37 kills to 24 deaths, 92.3 ADR and a 1.54 rating.
kyousuke followed with 36 kills, 88.8 ADR and a 1.41 rating, while m0NESY recorded a 1.22 rating.
For G2, huNter- was the only player to finish above a 1.10 rating, ending the series at 1.15.
The victory sends Falcons into the semi-finals against Spirit .
That matchup will be a rematch of the IEM Cologne Major semi-final, where Falcons previously defeated Spirit after winning two overtime maps.
G2, meanwhile, continue a long run without a top-four finish at a Big Event.
