Anubis Creator Proposes Map Changes Due to Side Imbalance

Anubis Creator Proposes Map Changes Due to Side Imbalance

Author Anubis - Roald has joined the discussion on potential adjustments that he believes could balance the current tilt towards the attack side. His suggestions involve not just tweaks but the removal of entire zones and changes to key routes.

At major tournaments in 2025, Anubis has repeatedly been a venue where the advantage was on the side of the terrorists. Such statistical imbalances have raised concerns among players, as well as the map's creator. Roald joined the discussion to propose his vision for rebalancing and to hear players' opinions.

What exactly does Roald propose?
Roald shared two main ideas:

Removing the upper part of bombsite A (Rugs). In his opinion, this would weaken terrorist aggression and strengthen defensive positions. If Rugs were to disappear, defenders could more actively control Canals, B Short, and the bridge without fearing an overhead flank.
Shifting the path to T-stairs. Currently, terrorists reach this position too quickly, giving them an edge in early skirmishes. Altering the route's geometry would make the timings more balanced, increasing the defense's chances for early-game control.

When a player suggested adding a passage from the CT spawn to the Storage Room, Roald responded that it's unnecessary:

I dont think the map needs another 'loop'. If it would be easier somehow for the CTs to push anywhere in the map, they can get more map control and also rotate through the Canals or mid and have teammates rotate earlier based on their information.
Roald

Roald acknowledges that the proposed changes might be too radical:

Maybe too drastic, but worth to try some change imo. Or maybe move the path to the T stair a bit out to reduce the timing to T stair, so the T - CT fight between T stair and B lower is equal, perhaps A main to T stair as well.
Roald

He emphasizes that he doesn't aim to complicate the map but wants to maintain its rhythm and structure, making playing as CT more comfortable and competitive.

If even part of these changes are implemented, teams will face a new meta on Anubis. The attack will lose some of its initial advantage, while the defense will gain tools for aggression and rotation. This could significantly alter approaches to training, pick-ban strategies, and even the choice of starting side in tournaments.

For now, Roald's proposals remain at the discussion stage but are already sparking lively reactions in the community. With upcoming majors and an increasing number of matches on Anubis, the balance issue is becoming more relevant than ever.
